Creating Comfort Through Connection
CMLE Grant Helps Launch Children’s Grief Library at Bri’s Lodge

Bri’s Lodge has introduced a powerful new resource to support grieving children and their families—and CMLE is proud to be part of that story.
With the help of a CMLE grant, Bri’s Lodge developed the Children’s Grief Companion Room & Library, a welcoming space designed to provide comfort, connection, and age-appropriate grief support. The grant funded the creation of the library’s core setup and a carefully curated collection of books focused on grief and healing for both children and their caregivers.
A Space Designed with Children in Mind
One standout feature is a cozy kids’ play fort with built-in reading nooks—a space where grieving children can read, play, and reflect. The design blends imagination and comfort, recognizing that emotional healing for children often begins in safe, inviting environments where they can simply be themselves.
According to Bri’s Lodge Executive Director Tami Kruzel, this space is more than just a room—it’s a lifeline.
“The new Children's Companion Room is absolutely beautiful—a warm, welcoming space created with care and compassion. At Bri’s Lodge, we know that kids grieve too. When grief goes unacknowledged or unsupported, children and teens are at greater risk for challenges like substance use, depression, early pregnancy, and academic struggles. This room… is a place where healing can begin early and continue in healthy, meaningful ways.”
About Bri’s Lodge
Located in Waite Park, Bri’s Lodge is part of the nonprofit What Would Bri Do, founded in memory of BriAnna Kruzel. BriAnna was an active volunteer and community leader who passed away unexpectedly at age 18. Her family created the organization to honor her legacy of giving back. Today, Bri’s Lodge carries that spirit forward with a mission to help individuals cope with loss, support their healing, and bring hope for the future—because no one should grieve alone.
Supporting Lasting Impact Through CMLE Grants
This project is a powerful example of how CMLE grant funding can fuel meaningful, lasting change. By investing in grief resources for young people, this grant is helping Bri’s Lodge create a space that meets children where they are—with compassion, imagination, and understanding.
